Activities at the Secret Garden

Indoor activities are a diverse and fun way to stimulate a child’s imagination. The daily routine for all ages of children involves a programme of activities designed specifically for that age group.

The children are encouraged to join in with construction, games, role play activities, singing and movement to music. Messy play is fun for everyone, with potato painting, dough modelling and tactile play being just some of the many activities.

We work to specific topics throughout the year and produce vibrant notice boards particular to the theme. With the help of our staff, the children are involved in making and drawing art work to add to these displays.

The children play outside three times daily, weather permitting, in our self contained private rear garden which has a separate “no mow” soft play area.

Outdoors we have climbing apparatus, slides and a tree house to develop physical skills, balance and co-ordination.

In addition there are tricycles, scooters, cars and seesaws for the slightly more mobile children. For the younger children we have a summer gazebo in the soft play area.

The staff involve the children in hand-eye activities using bats, balls, a large rubber hopscotch and skittles.

At various times of the year, special activites are arranged which include:-

  • “football day” when the children dress up in football strips
  • “bounce day” when the nursery has a bouncy castle
  • “beach day” in the summer
  • “summer outings” to locations such as “ Twin Lakes”
  • “pyjama day” to support Children in Need
  • “firework party” to which our parents are invited
  • “christmas party” to which our parents are invited
  • “carol concert” which is great fun for all involved
