Education at the Secret Garden In our Ladybirds baby unit, education is based around learning through play and following the “Birth to Three Matters” framework. Each child has a daily diary which records all details of your child’s day. These are available to the parents at the end of each day. For the under ones the emphasis is on sensory development, using colour, sound, music, touch and taste. We have a variety of early learning materials and toys available to encourage self-discovery and physical development. As the babies begin to find their feet, they are encouraged to move about independently in readiness for the move to the Butterfly room for our 1-2’s.

Continuing the “Birth to Three Matters” framework, education in our Butterfly room moves into the realm of hands-on creative play. The children have access to sand, water, play dough, drawing materials and a range of textiles for collage and box modelling. In this area there is an array of construction equipment from building blocks to duplo, a dressing up corner to encourage role play and “small world” toys for imaginative play. Singing, counting, identifying colours and shapes and moving about to music are just some of the many activities which occur on a daily basis in this room. |

Bigside education involves continuing the “Birth to Three Matters” framework for those children aged 2-3, and from 3 years old the children work to the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum. Using puzzles, table top games and books, the children develop their communication skills, mathematical, creative and physical development. They learn how to co-operate, share, help others, take turns and show patience. We have a computer in the classroom and for one hour each week those children over three years receive a free fun French lesson with our visiting French linguist, Natalie. The nursery receives support from a specialist teacher from the Nottinghamshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership. |
